/ Interlibrary Loan Service

Purpose

The aim is to provide academic staff with books, articles, and other publications that are needed but not available in the collections of Kocaeli University Libraries, sourced from affiliated university libraries or information centers within the country. The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service is managed by the Central Library.

Requests Made by Kocaeli University Library

  1. The ILL service is exclusively for library member academic staff.
  2. Before making a request, the user must check whether the requested resource is available in the collections of Kocaeli University Libraries.
  3. The National Union Catalog (TOKAT) can be utilized to identify other libraries that can provide the resource not found in the collection. The user must confirm details such as the lending status and publication type from the catalog of the institution to which the request will be forwarded.
  4. The user notifies the library at kutuphaneill@kocaeli.edu.tr by email, providing bibliographic information (title, author, publication year, publisher, and, if available, volume, ISBN, and printing details) of the requested resource and the institution to which the request will be sent. Requests submitted with incomplete information will not be processed, and the user will receive feedback via email.
  5. In case the request is rejected by the receiving institution or if the institution is not suitable, the user will receive feedback via email.
  6. When the requested resource arrives at the library, the user is informed via email. The user is responsible for collecting the resource on time and covering any shipping fees associated with this service.
  7. The lending rules of the providing institution apply to the requested resources. Users are obligated to adhere to the rules of the providing institution in case of late return or damage to borrowed resources.
  8. The user committing to use the resource in compliance with copyright regulations is implied upon making the request.
  9. Violations of the rules may result in sanctions or restrictions from the providing institution on future requests, considering the matter institutionally. Therefore, users who do not comply with the rules will not be eligible to benefit from the Interlibrary Loan Service in the future.

Requests Sent from Other Institutions

  1. Researchers applying through institutional libraries/information centers can benefit from the Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL). Personally made applications will not be considered.
  2. Kocaeli University Library reserves the right to accept or decline requests. References, reserves, audio-visual materials, periodicals, theses, standards, and rare publications or those deemed unsuitable for removal from the library are not loaned.
  3. The requested resources are sent to the respective institution via courier/postal service; all shipping costs are covered by the requesting institution.
  4. The number of resources provided is limited to 10 per institution and is valid for 30 days. If there are no reservations on the sent resource, the institution can request a one-time extension.
  5. The Kocaeli University lending rules apply to requested resources (see Circulation Service Rules). The requesting institution is responsible for the resource not being returned on time (including loss or damage during postage).
  6. The requesting institution commits to using the resource in compliance with copyright regulations.
  7. The library reserves the right to recall the publication without waiting for the return date when deemed necessary."
