Service for Visually Impaired Users

1. Visually impaired users can access the Central Library building at Umuttepe Campus using tactile surface pavements, which extend to the entrance of the library and continue inside to reading rooms, elevators, the disabled room, and restroom.

2. A Braille Floor Plan is located at the entrance of the Central Library building. This tactile floor plan provides guidance to all areas of use within the library.

3. Specific requests from visually impaired users for special works (Braille books, electronic texts, audio books in human voice and computer voice formats, etc.) related to the subjects of education, teaching, and research provided at the university are provided within the library's capabilities.

4. Various information resources, textbooks, and lecture notes are narrated through university projects or volunteers based on requests from visually impaired users. These resources prepared in human voice format and following narration guidelines are stored in accessible formats and can be loaned to visually impaired users.

5. The Braille Printer in the Disability Room allows visually impaired users to obtain embossed prints for textbooks, exam papers, lecture notes, etc. Besides single or double-sided printing, printing in fascicle format is also possible with the Braille printer.

6. The library's audio recording devices can be loaned to disabled users for specific periods to enable recording during lectures and organizing lecture materials.

7. The Book Reading Machine in the Disability Room allows users to digitize printed information sources. Additionally, the machine can read and record sources of any type in natural human voice quality.

8. With the Focus Pro 40 in the Disability Room, visually impaired users can read text on computer screens using Braille alphabet and control the computer with a special Braille keyboard. The Focus Pro 40 Integrated Braille Keyboard is a specially developed device that allows users to type using Braille.

9. Visually impaired users can use the following screen reading programs on Disability Room computers to read digital resources:

   • Magic for Windows Screen Reader and Magnification Program: Specifically developed for the visually impaired, this program magnifies the screen while speaking simultaneously.

   • Jaws for Windows Screen Reader Program: This program enables visually impaired individuals to effectively use the computer and speaks in the Turkish language.

Service for Orthopedically Impaired Users

1. Central Library building entrance and interior Disabled Ramps ensure access for orthopedically impaired users to library halls.

2. In addition to the enclosed elevator on the ground floor, a Stair Lift is available in the Central Library to provide access to the first-floor reading room.

3. At the Library Loan Unit, users can independently perform borrowing/returning operations using the Self Check Device, which is also suitable for orthopedically impaired individuals

Service for Hearing Impaired Users

1. Audio recording devices available in the library can be loaned to disabled users for specific periods to allow recording during classes and organizing lecture materials.

2. Library staff continue to receive Sign Language training to assist hearing impaired users effectively.
